Abstract

28,199. Birtles, J. Dec. 23. Actuating lift valves; spindles.-Relates to means for controlling the operation of hydraulic machinery, and consists in a valve having an inlet, back-pressure, and exhaust valve, each arranged in chambers and adapted to close by fluid pressure, the inlet and exhaust valves being lifted by an eccentric spindle. Fig. 1 shows a sectional view of the valve, the casing a of which is formed with the inlet port b, the exhaust port d, and an outlet c to the machine or apparatus, the inlet valve e, the back-pressure valve g, and the exhaust valve f each being arranged in separate chambers e', g<1>, f<1>, respectively. The valves e, fare operated by eccentrics l, l<1> on the spindle i, and, when the latter is in the mid-position, both valves are closed. The valve-chambers are fitted with removable inspection plugs m<1>. The stems of the valves are made to fit the casing, and are formed with a number of flutes n of different length so that as the valve is operated the pressure of water is only gradually altered. Cams or levers, operated by a right and left handed screw, may be used in place of the eccentric spindle.
