Abstract

23,484. Scott, A. A. Oct. 29. Stencilling-apparatus; printing fabrics.-Relates to stencil apparatus for printing, painting, or marking cloth or other material. The material is fed continuously over a table under a stencil plate H, Fig. 3, which revolves step by step on a carriage F reciprocating on guide-bars E, and descends on the material in the forward movement of the carriage F, when the carriage attains a speed equal to that of the material. The carriage F is actuated by means of a link F<1>, a bellcrank lever F<2>, and a cam G on the shaft A' of one feed roller A. The stencil plate II is carried by a vertically-movable hollow shaft O, Figs. 3 and 6, and is actuated at each reciprocation of the carriage F by pawl-and-ratchet mechanism H<5>, H<3> ; the pawl H<5> is on a shaft 0' disposed within the shaft 0 and linked to a fixed pin M<3>. A guide-bar N for a reciprocating paint pot R, Fig. 8, is fixed to a sleeve O<1> passing through the shaft 0 and secured to a bracket P, which is linked to a lever P<2> swing- ing and feathered on one guide-bar E. A rotary movement is imparted to this guide-bar E by means of a crank Q', a link Q', a lever Q<3>, and a cam Q<5> on the shaft A', so that the bar N is pulled down and depresses the stencil plate H. A spring is arranged to raise the stencil plate and maintain the parts Q<3>, Q<5> in contact. The reciprocation of the stencil plate and its connections may be otherwise obtained from an independent rod or shaft working above or below the stencil plate. A table G<2> on the carriage F moves under the material at the printing-position, and is recessed for the descent of gripping arms or fingers on a plate S, which is held down by a spring U, and raised by means of an adjustable abutment on the bracket P or the lever P<2>. One or both feed rollers are recessed for the passage of the printed part of the material. The paint pot R, Fig. 8, is provided with an adjustable door R<1> backed by springs R' and hinged so that it tends to open when the pot is forced down along with the stencil plate upon the material. The pot is linked to the arm of the pawl H<5>, Fig. 3. On the bar N are also scrapers or wipers, not shown. The paint pot may be arranged to sweep radially over the stencil plate. The door of the pot may be sectional, in order to provide a flexible edge. In another arrangement, the pot is provided with a piston, plunger, or rollers supplying a blade or brush.
