Abstract

17,854. Higgins, C., and Murray, D. Aug. 18. Pulleys; friction gearing.-Driving pulleys, friction cones, &c. are covered with leather wood, vulcanized or indurated fibre, compressed paper, &c., without the use of rivets on the working surfaces, and in such a manner that the covering can be easily renewed. The material is placed between the two parts a and c of the pulley, Figs. 1 and 5, and the parts are fastened by screw bolts e, or by means of a nut screwed on the end of the projecting hub b. The faces of the parts a, c may be roughened. In the pulley shown in Fig. 3, the material d is held by recesses in the parts a, c. Fig. 8 shows friction cones and Fig. 10 driving- rollers constructed in a similar manner. The invention is also applicable to belt pulleys with convex surfaces.
