Dust guards.-The tendency of wheeled vehicles to raise dust when running on a road or track is diminished by delivering a jet of air or other gas at the lower part of the back of each wheel. Fig. 2 shows the invention as applied to a motor car in which the intermediate driving-shaft a is fitted with a worm-wheel b which works a centrifugal fan d and drives a current of air through the pipes f, g to the wheels. Fig. 7 shows one form of jet which may be employed, but, if only a small quantity of gas at a high pressure is available, this may be constructed on the injector principle. In another form of the invention, trumpet-shaped pipes partly surround each wheel, the wide end being turned in the direction of travel and the narrow end terminating at the desired point behind the wheel. The jets would preferably be adjustable and removable and may contain valves to regulate or stop the supply of air. In the case of vehicles having tubular frames, the tubes may be utilized for the passage of the gas as above.
