13,388. Salzer, F. B., and Walther, G. June 15. Straight-bar knitting-machines. -Relates to means for widening or narrowing at one or both selvages independently. The fashioning-points e<1>, e<2> are carried in slides 28, 29 secured to bars 27, 26, the corresponding slides at the right band of the division being secured to bars 25, 24. The filling- up points c, d are carried by slides 34, 35 moved up and down by rocking levers 42, 43, on the shaft 39 ; the corresponding points at the other selvage are operated by levers 40 &c. on the shaft 38. When fashioning commences, the points e<1>, e<2> come down and take the loops ; the inner group e<1> moves one needle space and the outer group e<2> two needle spaces thus leaving a gap, as indicated in Fig. 6. The points c, d now descend and take the last loop but one, and all the loops are transferred from the points e<1>, e<2>, c, d to the needles, as indicated in Fig. 2. As the points c descend, they come into the same plane with the points e. The independence of operation of the parts e, e', c, d at each end of the division enables two-needle narrowing or widenings to be made at either or both selvages.
