Money-delivering apparatus. - Relates to a modification of the changeg i v i n g apparatus described in Specification No. 6366, A.D. 1902, for application to gas meters and other coin-freed machines and capable of giving change for coins of one or two different denominations. Figs. 2 and 3 show side elevations of the mechanism of the apparatus shown in front elevation in Fig. 1. The coins falling from the gas meter &c. pass down a flat tube 3 and enter a revoluble box 27 through an opening in its periphery. A coin passing down the tube 3 first operates a cranked lever 17 to free a wheel 15, then operates a pallet 8 to close the upper end of the tube 3, and finally strikes one of the teeth 16 and turns the wheel 15. A numbered drum 32 on the spindle 13 of the wheel 15 is at the same time turned, to indicate at a sight-hole 33 the number of coins in the box 27. When twelve coins have passed down the tube 3, a pin on a lever 24 falls into a square notch 22 in a ratchet-wheel 21 and locks the wheel 15, a slot 35 in a disc 34 being at the same time brought opposite to a pin on a lever 37. A thirteenth coin passing into the tube 3 is stopped and operates the pallet 8, to prevent other coins from entering. The levers 17, 24 combine to limit the motion of the wheel 15 at each action. The coin which is to be exchanged for the twelve coins in the box 27 is now inserted into a slot 56 after the handle or cranked lever 54 has been raised, and is pushed in by depressing the handle, the lever 37 being thus rotated about its pivot 38 and the coin forced into the pocket of a sliding bolt 48. These actions release the box 27, as described in the above-mentioned Specification, so that the protruding slide 60 can be drawn forward to rotate the box 27 by means of the pin 30 and slot 63. The contained coins then fall into the shoot 65. The pin 30 acts on a lever 31 to lift the catch-lever 24 from the ratchet-wheel 21, and a stud 64 then bears against a tooth 16 and turns the spindle 13 slightly, bringing the wheel 13 and drum 32 to the zero position ; the pawl 58 co-operates with a pin 66 on the drum 32 to limit this movement of the drum. The return movement of the box 27 on the return of the slide 60 is transmitted to the bolt 48, as described in the above-mentioned Specification, so that the coin falls into a box 70. When the apparatus is required to give change for a coin when only six coins have passed into the box 27, an additional slot 56 and lever 37 are provided on the case, and either an additional slotted disc 34 or a second slot 35<1> on the first disc 34. the two slots 35, 35<1> being set at different angular positions to prevent incorrect operation. A slotted plate 67, Fig. 4, mounted on one of the trunnions 28 of the box 27, is drawn forwards by a spring 71 to follow up the pin 30 when the box 27 is rotated by means of the slide 60, and an incline 70 then acts on the lever 17, Fig. 2, to free the wheel 15 ; a toothed sector 72 attached to the box 27 afterwards rotates a second sector 73 on spindle 13 to complete the rotation of the wheel 15. The other actions are as already described. The sector 72, however, passes back without rotating the sector 73, so that the drum 32 and other parts are left in the zero position. The apparatus may be constructed to exchange other numbers of operating coins or tokens or for other similar purposes.
