Abstract

11,463. Leetham, R. E. May 20. Shoots.-Relates to outlets or exits for inclined storage compartments cr floors, described in Specifications Nos. 20,682 and 23,284, A.D. 1900, and used for the storage of grain &c., in sacks, goods in bales, &c., and consists of means for delivering such sacks &c. one by one at any desired intervals. At the outlet end of the inclined floor a is pivoted a trap b, the end c of which, in the position shown, projects above the level of the floor and forms a stop, agaiust which rests the lowest package d in the store. When the delivery of a package is required, the projection c is withdrawn, the lower end of the trap being at the same time raised. The package then moves downwards, and, on passing the pivot p, depresses the lower end of the trap, thus causing the part c to rise and block the next passage. The apparatus remains in this position until the trap is again raised, either by hand, or automatically after a predetermined interval. Means for the automatic operation of the trap are shown in Fig. 5 in connection with a somewhat modified trap. The trap b is, as before, turned into its blocking position by the passage of the package, but is automatically shifted to its other position by its connection with a lever m, the lower end of which is depressed by the package in the course of its progress down the shoot. In a modification, the actual stop consists of a pivoted plate, which is moved between a vertical "stop" position and a "pass" position, flush with the floor, by means of a trap similar to that shown in Fig. 1. In another modification, the trap consists of a pivoted plate, which is moved through half a turn by the passage of each sack, and always in the same direction. These modified forms of trap embody the same principle as that shown in Fig. 1, but are not claimed.
