Abstract

10,806. Hebb, J. A., and Hebb Patents Co. May 12. Coking.-A coke-drawing apparatus comprises a travelling framework supporting a turntable on which is mounted a rake beam, conveyers for carrying away the coke drawn from the oven, together with gearing for raising and lowering the beam, and for giving it longitudinal movement in either direction, and gearing for rotating the turntable, and for moving the platform and conveyers. Fig. 1 is a plan, and Fig. 2 a vertical section on an enlarged scale, of the apparatus. Mounted on the framework A, Fig, 2, is the main shaft 4, which continuously drives by bevel gearing the shafts 5, 6. The shaft 24, with its ends journalled in uprights supported by the turntable B, may be driven in either direction from the shaft 6, by causing one or other of the friction sleeves 40, Fig. 1, in spline engagement with the shaft 24, to engage with its corresponding friction drum 36, provided on its inner side with teeth 37 in constant engagement with the gear-wheel 38, Fig. 2, on the shaft 6. This engagement in either direction is effected by lever 42, Fig. 1, causing the shaft 45 to move the sleeves 46. extending round the hubs of the sleeves 40. Pinions 25, Fig. 2, on the shaft 24 engage with the rack 26, on the underside of the beam 27, which beam is provided with a rake 31, adapted to fold backwards on coming into contact with the coke on entering the oven, and to be automatically extended by a spring 32 connected by the rod 33 to the arm 34 of the rake head The inner end of the beam 27 is raised and lowered by the worm 59 engaging the segment 60, pivoted at 61 and provided with an arm 62, sup porting links 63 carrying rollers 64, 66, between which the beam passes. The shaft 47, carrying the worm 59, is provided with a bevel-wheel 48 in mesh with wheels 49, 50, loosely mounted on the shaft 6 but adapted to be set in motion by moving the clutch 52 in one direction or the other. The framework A is moved in either direction by causing bevel and clutch gearing on the shaft 5, similar to that on the shaft 6 just described, and partly shown in Fig. 2, to actuate a worm-wheel on the axle 70. The turntable B is rotated by a hand-wheel 12, Fig. 1, actuating by bevel and worm gearing the pinion 19, Fig. 2, which engages the teeth of a circular rack 18, mounted on the upper surface of the framework A. The conveyer C, consisting of an endless apron of slats 91, is carried by sprocket-wheels 92, 93 in engagement with the chain 94, to which the slats are secured. The conveyer C is driven from the shaft 5 through sprocket-wheels 98,100 and the chain 99. A similar conveyer D, receiving the coke from the previous one, is driven from the shaft 4 by sprocket-wheels 104, 106 and chain 105.
