Abstract
9606. Claudel, C. H. April 28. Oil gas; gas retorts. -Combustible liquids, such as petroleums and alcohols, are forced by a plunger 4 through a nozzle 2 and mix with waste gases, such as the exhaust gases from explosion or combustion motors, blastfurnace gases, limekiln gases, or the like, and the mixture passes through a vaporizing- chamber 17 fitted in a retort 1. The retort may be heated by means of a burner 19 supplied with heated air from a jacket 24, surrounding an inner jacket 22, through which the blast-fur- or other gases travel to the chamber 17 past a valve 5, which regulates the flow. A filling of infusible wire 25, or of carbonaceous substances, such as coke, may be placed in the chamber 17. The mixture of combustible liquid and air impinges upon the heated base of the retort and travels to an outlet 15, being broken up, during its passage, by a series of flanges 21, of diminishing diameters, projecting from the chamber 17 into the annular space between the chamber and the retort. The plunger 4 may be actuated by a spring and a cam 3, so that its drawing-stroke may be much more rapid than its forcing-stroke.
