Abstract

9115. Daggett, W. A. April 22, A.D. 1902, [date applied for under Patents Act, A.D. 1901]. Electric railways and tramways with overhead con. ductors. Collectors.-Consists of a trolley having a yielding connection independent of the trolley - pole connection to the car, so as to prevent trolley - pounding Figs. 1 and 3 show side and plan views respectively and Fig. 2 a sectional view o f Fig. 1. The shank A, fixed to t h e trolley pole at its lower end, extends upwards as shown at R, from which portion extends on each side a stud C. Bolts G, K, K<1> keep the prongs D at a fixed distance apart. The flat spring H is clamped by the plate I and bolt J. The upward tendency of the spring H against the shoe L holds the fork, which is pivoted on the studs C, in the normal position. The bolt G limits the upward motion of the fork. The trolley wheel is fitted loosely on the spindle N, and may move sideways against the spring contacts R. The spindle N also fits loosely in the hole M, and on the horizontal pins O. This allows the wheel to adapt itself to the irregularities of the wire. Contact is made by the springs R against the washers Q, which are kept from rotating by the projecting pieces Q<1>, shown clearly in Fig. 4. This ensures good contact and also prevents the springs from being worn.
