Abstract

8259. Slaughter, J. C. April 9. Dynamos, regulating. - In alternating-current distribution, in order to economize the generation during periods of light load a potential-raising device is connected in the circuit, and it and the exciter are adjusted to the load. The diagram shows one arrangement. The alternator 1 is excited by the exciter 4, and supplies the mains 2, 3. At 7 is a rheostat switch in the exciter circuit, and 9 is the primary coil of a transformer in one of the leads 3. The effective number of turns in the coil is regulated by the switch 13, which may be mechanically connected to the switch 7. The secondary coil 10 of the transformer is connected between the leads at the points 11 and 12, and thus gives a higher voltage than that of the supply. At full load, the coil 9, and also the resistances 8, are cut out.
