Rotary machines; folding paper; delivery apparatus; associating-apparatus; cutting-apparatus.- Web perfecting and folding machinery, for printing in one or in several colours, comprises four sets of printing-apparatus A, B, C, D, each of which has two printing-cylinders 6, 7 and one impression cylinder 8, and two printing cylinders 11, 12 each with its own impression cylinder 13 or 14. Each printing-apparatus has sets of inking- apparatus 9, of the usual kind. Two webs E, and F, G and H, I and K, or L and M may be run through each printing-apparatus, one web being printed by means of cylinders 6, 12, and the other by means of cylinders 7, 11, the printed webs being finally run together between rollers 60, 61, and folded by folding-mechanisms 4. The impression cylinders 13, 14 are not geared together directly, but indirectly, by means of pinions 88, Fig. 3, and 92, 93 mounted on a slidiug-rod 89, which is controlled by means of a handle 91. When it is desired to print the webs in colours, the pinions 92, 93 are put into gear with the impression cylinders ; the web is then printed upon by all the printing - cylinders, in colours on one side and in black on the other side, if desired. In a modification, the sets of printing-apparatus, instead of being arranged in pairs facing one another as in Fig. 1, are placed in tiers, the web-supply rollers being arranged above one another at one end of the machine and the folding-apparatus at the opposite end. Fig. 7 shows a delivery apparatus having two longitudinal folders 184, 189, pointing downwards, and two similar folders 190, 191 pointing upwards, whence the folded webs pass between cutting-cylinders 200, 203 and are cut transversely into sheets, which are stripped from the cylinders by guides 215, 218, of the usual kind, and conveyed by endless converging tapes 219, 229, to a rotary carrier 232. This carrier has two sets of grippers 233 and two folding-blades 234, of the usual form, and the blades force the associated and superposed sheets between folding-rollers 235, whence the folded sheets may be directed to an S-fly 237 and slowly moving tapes 238, actuated in the usual way.
