Abstract
5038. Smith, A., and Southall, C. March 4. Electric weighing-apparatus.-Relates to means for automatically discharging the load pan or like receptacle after each weighing. The discharge is prevented by an electromagnet until the movement of the beam or other part of the apparatus breaks the electric circuit. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 3, as applied to an automatic weigher of the type described in Specification No. 10,296, A.D. 1902, the receptacle B is pivoted on the beam E, and is provided with a hinged bottom A, which is normally held up by an electromagnet D. When the beam tilts, contact is broken at G, and the magnet de-energized, allowing the bottom A to fall and discharge the contents of the pan B. The bottom is fitted with a counterweight, to close it when the load has fallen out. Fig. 4 shows another arrangement. The pan B<1> is mounted so as to tend to tilt and discharge when loaded, but is retained by the electromagnet D until it is de-energized. In order that the electric leads shall not interfere with the weighing, trunnion-like contacts.J, J<1>, Fig. 3, are provided.
