Abstract
4902. Jetter, E. March 3. Hides and skins, raw, treating; parchment and like processes; tanning, tawing, and the like; "raw " hide " and the like.-Depilated skins are treated with lime and steeped in gelatine, glue, isinglass, albumen, casein, or the like for a day or two. Nitro-cellulose is then introduced by a solution of collodion prepared with glacial acetic acid. The skins, being dried, are then treated with a solution of chloride of aluminium or other tanning-material, forming a horn-like substance, suitable as a substitute for whalebone.
