Measured quantit i e s, delivering.- Stoppers for medicine bottles, scent bottles, vinegar bottles, and the like are constructed to deliver the contents in drops or small quantities. The stopper shown in Fig. 1 consists of a flanged metal casing 1 provided with a central passage and a spout 5, and fitted below the flange 2 with a cork 4. A ball valve 9, which closes the bottom of the central passage, is attached to a rod 8 terminating outside in a knob 10 ; the valve is closed by a spiral spring 11, and is locked in the closed position, when required, by a locking-device 23 on the top of the metal cap which closes the recess 12 containing the spring. The bottle is opened by pressing down the valve. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the metal casing is fixed to the neck of the bottle by a sleeve 13, and a conical valve is forced down upon a conical valve seat, formed in the neck of the bottle, by a spring 11. In this case, the bottle is opened by pulling up the valve. In a modification, a push-down valve plate is adapted to close the lower end of the central passage in the casing, the supporting-spring being placed between the top of the casing and the knob on the valve-rod. In another modification, the casing terminates at the flange 2, Fig. 1, the edges of which are bent downwards over a rim on the bottle-neck to secure it in place ; an inverted conical valve is forced up against the central passage by a spiral spring placed below the valve.
