Abstract

1359. Irvin, J. H. Jan. 20. Decoys.-Relates to the use of a light or lights for attracting fish in deep sea or other fishing. The light, which may be electric or any other kind, is suspended in front of the nets and towed by an insulating-wire from the ship. The light may be arranged on a runner, as shown in Fig. 3, which moves along the bottom of the water at a suitable distance in front of the trawl boards and nets. When the trawler is working round fixed buoys, the generator and lights may be fixed to these. When the light is used with seine nets, stake nets, and other nets or traps, the light is arranged so as to attract the fish into the nets or traps.
