Abstract

28,502. Hermes, J. E., [Krahnen & Gobbers]. Dec. 24. Ribbons.-Relates to a known method of and means for producing ribbons from velvet and other comparatively stout fabrics by passing the material b through pairs of steel rollers, in which each pair consists of a plain roller f and a heated roller e, the latter having a central cutting-edge and two side portions which are embossed or engraved so as to produce upon the edges of the severed fabric an imitation of the border of a woven-edge ribbon. This invention consists in adapting the apparatus so that it will cut ribbons from thin and light fabrics by carrying underneath the fabric b an impressionable material d, such as paper, felt, or the like, which receives the impression with the fabric and caused it to become well marked and permanent, even in the case of very light and thin fabrics. The material d may or may not be cut with the fabric b. A rod j separates the fabric b and the material d after they have passed between the rolls.
