Abstract

25,342. Buder, T. C. Nov. 18. Electric railways and tramways with overhead conductors. Collectors.-A number of rollers 4, 5, 9 are mounted to run on bearings 8 carried by the plates 7, which are pivoted at 11 in the forked end of the trolley pole 2. Two rollers thus normally run on the wire, but if any considerable obstruction is encountered the appliance turns on the pivots 11 to bring another pair of rollers into action. The split spring washer shown in Figs. 6 and 7 is used at the bearings to make electric connection. To allow the trolley to pass round curves &c. the fork 24 can swivel on the pin 19 fixed in the end of the pole 2. A cam or double wedge-shaped collar 22 lies between the similarly-formed ends of the fork and pole, so that the fork is caused to rise as it swivels and is forced back by the spring 28. A similar result is obtained by studs 39 fixed in the pin 19 and projecting into triangular recesses 41 in the socket end of the fork. The trolley rope is attached to the ring 36.
