Abstract
24,707. Carolan, E. A., [General Electric Co.]. Nov. 11. Supporting lamps.-Relates to means for supporting an arc lamp so that it may be attached thereto and detached therefrom by suitably pulling on the single cord by which it is raised and lowered. When the lamp is detached, it is automatically cut out of the circuit. Figs. 1 and 4 are front and side elevations, partly in section. The rope passes over the pulley 4, and is attached to the plug 7, which supports the hook 8 on which the lamp is hung. The plug 7 enters into the socket 9 when the lamp is raised, and is supported there by a pin 10, projecting from the socket, fitting into a notch on the cam-shoulder 11 on the plug. Fig. 6 shows the cam arrangements. When the movement of the rope is checked by the pin entering the notch 13, the rope is slacked and the plug falls, so that the pin supports the plug by the notch 14. On further pulling on the rope, the pin comes to the notch 15, and then, if the rope is slacked, the lamp can be lowered at once. Spring contacts 20 from the line terminals 16, 17 keep the main line closed when the lamp is down, but when the lamp is in position, springs 24, 25 from the lamp terminals 21, 22 make contact with the springs 19, 19<1> respectively, and at the same time separate the contacts 20, thus taking the current through the lamp.
