Abstract

21,750. Knoth, H. Oct. 6. Open-hearth steel processes.-A portion of the refined charge run off from an open-hearth furnace at the termination of a heat, may be mixed with the pig iron, or metal, for the next heat, and the mixture run into the furnace; or the refined metal may be run into the furnace before or after the pig iron or other crude metal. The process may be carried out in any suitable way, but, preferably, the steel is run into a ladle, whence the desired amount is run into the ingot moulds, the residue being then mixed with the metal for the next heat, and the mixture run from the ladle into the furnace.
