Water-circulation, promoting. -Consists in providing non- heat - conducting circulation jackets and tubes inside a boiler, so as to divide the water in immediate contact with the heating-surfaces from the rest of the water in the boiler, except at the bottom. The narrow spaces thus divided off are connected by rising tubes or passages with the steam space above the water level, baffleplates being provided to separate the water and steam at the outlets. Fig. 1 shows a Cornish boiler with an insulating-jacket c and inner tubes h in the crosswater tubes. Fig. 3 shows a marine boiler with similar jackets c and rising tubes n. Fig. 5 shows an externallyheated tubular boiler with an inner insulating-jacket c. Fig. 6 shows a water-tube boiler with inner circulating - tubes h mounted in a plate b in the header, both tubes and plate being rendered non-conducting to heat. Fig. 7 shows a vertical boiler with an insulating-jacket c round the firebox, and with " Field "tubes having insulating circulation tubes h mounted in the jacket. When raising steam, the water level may be raised above the outlets of the circulation tube or passages.
