Abstract

13,739. Lake, H. H., [General Electric Co.]. June 17. Insulating-compositions; insulation.-Glass bulbs are blown with walls so thin that they break into sheets or flakes. These flakes are collected in a trough provided with a false bottom of, say, cloth or wire gauze. This trough is filled with a suitable cementing-material, such as shellac, or paraffin wax, maintained in a fluid condition. When the glass has been thoroughly saturated and matted, the false bottom is removed to drain off the surplus binding-material. The sheet of treated glass is then removed from the tray, and may be pressed or permitted to dry and harden without pressure. This insulating-material, composed of thin flakes of glass cemented together, may be then cut or trimmed into the shape desired.
