13,383. Rhodes, H. N., and Rhodes, A. B. June 13. Carding-engines; openers etc.; cards, wire.- Relates to apparatus for cleaning the rollers or toothed surfaces of Garnett or like waste openers &c. Fig. 1 shows a separate apparatus for cleaning the workers, and such other rollers as can be readily removed from the machine. The roller g is supported in bearings above a receptacle c, and coupled by a suitable chuck to a power-driven shaft, so that it is rapidly rotated while the dirt is loosened by flexible blades e and the cleaning is completed by a card-covered bar p. The blades e, are carried on a rocking shaft a, which is provided with handles f and is mounted to slide longitudinally, so that the blades can follow the spiral arrangement of the teeth. The card-covered bar p is mounted on a hinged frame q, and can be turned out of the way, when not required, as shown. Blades e and a card-covered block similar top may be mounted on the frame of the machine, when required. Fig. 3 shows a portable apparatus, adapted for cleaning the fancies, doffers, swifts, &c. without removal from the machine. The card-covered block v is mounted on the ends of removable levers s, and may be secured in positions suitable for cleaning any one of the three rollers shown.
