13,326. Hilder, H. W. June 12. Measuring for.-A graduated rod c, Figs. 1 and 2, slightly inclined at one part e, is adjustably fitted in a stand b. At the top of this rod are fixed two graduated strips g, h, to which are hinged two graduated slotted pieces i, j. The pieces i, j are in turn hinged to slightly-curved graduated pieces k, l. In the slotted pieces i, j are fitted curved pieces m, n, which can be fixed at any part of the slot, and have tape measures r dependent from them. Tape measures q, adjustable in position, also hang down from the parts k, l. On the part e of the rod c is an adjustable slotted piece t carrying a tape measure u. In use, the rod c is placed close to one side of the person, and is adjusted so that the upper end fits up into the armpit ; the pieces m, n are then clamped in position against the front and back of the shoulder, the curved arms k, l are pressed against the front and back, and the plate t is raised and pushed in until the tape end touches the person's side. With the appliance so adjusted, the points from which the tape measures q, r, and u are suspended form fixed data from which any necessary measurements can be taken.
