12,560. Steinberg, M. June 2. Potato planters.-Relates to the construction of a potato planter with which a dibbling-machine of ordinary construction may be combined. The seed hopper A is provided with a sloping side B, at the bottom of which is an opening through which the potatoes pass to an open compartment or tray C. A rotary spiked roller may be mounted beneath the hopper to regulate the supply of potatoes to the tray C. One or more horizontal divisions Z may be arranged in the hopper to prevent too great an accumulation of potatoes at the exit. Scoops R made of bent wire are attached to a rotary wheel E driven by suitable gearing from the axle of the main wheels. The scoops R pick up the potatoes singly, and discharge them into the seed tube F. The potatoes fall upon a grating G carried by a counterpoise lever connected by a chain K to a similar lever H, one end of which is depressed by the arms on the wheel E as they revolve, thus depressing the grating G and allowing the potato to fall into the furrow. The front end of the tray C is curved as shown at N, and spring arms, preferably with rollers such as P, Q, are arranged to remove surplus potatoes, if there should be more than one in the scoop R, and return them to the tray C, and to remove the potato from the scoop and let it fall down the tube F. A share may be attached to the front of the tube F, and covering. blades may be arranged behind it.
