Abstract

11,523. DÚri, M. May 20. Electric railways and tramways.-Relates to a method of, and means for, automatically regulating the consumption of energy in a system of electric traction. The current is supplied by a compound - wound generator G, of which one field winding w<1> is in connection with a separate exciter E, while the other w<2> is in series with the mains L leading to the motor M. These two windings are so arranged that normally they act in opposition, so that the voltage of the generator is varied automatically in a contrary sense to the main current. In this way, the necessity for employing starting resistances in the main motor circuit is avoided. The motor field may be separately excited by a battery B, with a reversing-switch S and rheostat C for adjusting the strength of the field as required. In applying the invention to electric railways, independent generators are employed for supplying the separate leads of a number of line sections, on each of which not more than one train is running at the same time.
