Abstract

9671. Brighton, F. April 26. Ambulance wagons; military-transport vehicles.- Relates to detail improvements in field ambulance and military-transport vehicles. The frame of the upper part of the vehicle body consists of wood supports C and metal tubes B secured to the well D. A few bars E are fitted across under the roof of the frame and support rods F swinging on hinges a, these rods and the frame being provided with springs G which support hooks g holding the stretchers H. The springs may consist of alternately-placed rubber and metal discs or of pneumatic cushions similar to tyre inflators. The upper stretchers may be lowered into position by means of ropes h<1> or the like, passing over pulleys h<2>, and any of the stretchers, when not in use, may be secured either to the sides or along the luggage top A' of the vehicle, the interior being left free for field transport purposes. The well D has a metal framework and is fitted with a convertible seat I, under which medical appliances i may be stored, and with folding seats J, which may have the edges k, k<1> adapted to hold a stretcher. Under the seats J is a boiler L, which is heated from the furnace l<3> and which is divided into two separate compartments having drawing-off tips l<2>. The boiler is fed through the stop-cock l<6> from a tank l<5> under the pivoted seat of the driver, and supplies hot water to a heating-pipe N which runs round the well back to the boiler. Additional tanks M for water or petroleum are supported under the well. Fuel for the furnace is carried in a box 0, and the furnace has a non-conducting covering l<9> for protecting the bearing-springs which may be attached to the well between the side plates of the framework. The fore-carriage T<1> turns on an upper wheel-plate between which and the body rubber blocks are fixed, and the draw-hook t<2> is connected to the splinter-bar T by means of a metal-and-rubber disc spring t<1>. The fore part of the vehicle has an invalid seat Q under which riffes and other accoutrements may be arranged on racks p<1>, and blankets or garments may be stored in this part of the vehicle. Geneva crosses U in coloured glass or mica are fitted to the sides of the vehicle and may be illuminated from a lamp V.
