Abstract

5306. Boult, A. J., [Schutz, H. M.]. March 3. Magic - lantern apparatus.- Pictures, diagrams, and other advertising - devices are projected, by apparatus such as that shown in Fig. 1, on a screen, preferably, ground glass, mounted on a frame. The pictures are carried on an endless band which passes over the rollers a, b, c, d and a drum z, the roller d being adjustable to put tension on the band. The band is moved intermittently before the usual arrangement of lenses &c., by means of a ratchet arrangement, consisting of a ratchet disc h, on the end of the drum z, with which a spring pawl on an arm depending from the shaft of drum, engages. The arm is actuated through a pin and slot connection, by a pivoted lever f having forked arms f<1>, f<2> of different lengths to give a quick forward and slow return movement; these arms are tripped alternately by two diametricallyopposite pins on the face of a pinion B, which is rotated through worm gearing by a motor y. The drum has, preferably, pins which engage in perforations in the carrier band, and at the end of each movement of the drum, a spring pin 15 enters one of four perforations in its end, to hold the film in register while being projected. The circuit which supplies the incandescent lamp 34 is controlled by a switch consisting of a disc provided with two concentric broken conducting-rings with which an arm on the end of the shaft of the pinion B makes contact, the circuit being interrupted when the arm comes opposite the broken parts of the rings, thus making the circuit for the projection of the advertisements, and breaking it while the slides are being changed.
