Abstract
1491. Wiesner, P. G., and Hartmann, S. Jan. 20. Smoke, treating; soot traps.-Relates to means for separating the soot from the smoke of furnaces, and is shown applied to a horizontal flue in sectional plan and elevation in Figs. 1 and 2 respectively. The fan d is mounted on an axle c supported at both ends of a casing b fixed in the flue a<1>. Secured to the axle a are circular sectors e, so arranged that the sectors of one series lie opposite to the spaces of the next. As the axle rotates, the sectors dip into water f held in the bottom of the casing, and the soot is deposited on the moistened rotating sectors. The sectors pass between asbestos or similar plates g, which scrape off the moistened soot, and allow it to run through an opening h into a channel i.
