Abstract

524. McLaren, W. Jan. 8. Brakes, hand. Relates to either-side wagon brakes. The hand-lever A, fast on the cross-shaft J, has pins a<1>, a<2> for tripping the spring arms b, b<1> on the loose lever B having a loop which embraces the brake lever C. In the position shown in Fig. 1, the brakes are "on" and, on lifting the lever A to remove the blocks, the pin a<1> lifts the arm b out of the ratchet D, and, when the parts are lowered, the pin a<2> trips the arm b<1> while the arm b slips over the ratchet. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, there is only one arm b, which is connected by the slotted link I to the lever A, while the lever C is looped, as before, to the loose lever B, which is bent in the opposite direction to that shown in Fig. 1.
