Abstract
26,076. Payne, F., and Payne, C. Dec. 20. Cylinder machines with plane printing-surfaces; lithographic and like printing.-Relates to stopcylinder machines, and consists in over-running the cylinder to the extent of one-third of a revolution, beyond its printing revolution, and then rotating it back to the starting point. Fig. 2 shows a machine in which B is the reciprocating bed, E is the cylinder, and N the delivery apparatus by which the sheets may be delivered printed side up. The sheet is delivered to the apparatus N when the cylinder E has over-run about onefifth of a revolution. The means for rotating the cylinder will be of the usual character, suitably modified to give the increased over-run. The cylinder, on account of its increased travel, may be reduced in diameter and weight, and the stroke of the bed may be shortened and its size and weight reduced. The cylinder is raised during the return of the bed by springs G, and is drawn down to make the impressions by toggles K which move crossheads J on rods I connected to the sliding bearings F of the cylinder. The invention is applicable to letterpress and lithographic machines.
