Abstract
19,821. Kettlewell, G. Oct. 4. Seeds, sowing; manuring; plants, protecting from insects. - Relates to a seed and manure drill, which may also be used for distributing fly-powder and the like on turnip crops. One or more hoppers for soot or other fertilizer are mounted on the frame 2, and are provided with a delivery worm 4 on a shaft 3 driven from the main axle 5 by a chain 8 and bevel gearing 11, 12. A spring clutch operated by a lever 13 is employed to throw the delivery worm out of action w h e required. Changewheels may also be employed in connection with the chain 8 to regulate the speed of delivery. The fertilizer is delivered into a tube 14, which leads it either to a hollow share 15 or direct upon the ground. The seed is delivered from a box of any ordinary construction to a hollow share 17. The shares 15, 17 are carried on pivoted levers 20, 22, which can be raised out of work by chains 25. The levers 20, 22 are automatically adjusted laterally by means of a concave roller 27 which runs on the drill.
