Abstract

15,467. Bose, J. C., and Bull, S. C. July 30. Coherers are rendered automatically sensitive by occasional "annealing," i.e., heating by means of a surrounding coil of wire carrying an electric current. In a modified arrangement, the coherer may be partially exhausted. Some substances, such as galena, are said to automatically remain sensitive, but these may be treated by the above methods. The Provisional Specification also refers to employing restoring methods, imparting a unidirectional twist ; enclosing the substance in an elastic medium ; employing an irritant vapour or the occlusion of gases ; and adjusting the pressure by a micrometer screw or adjusting the electromotive force until the critical point is reached.
