Abstract

13,747. Musso, G. July 5. Telegraphs.-Relates to page-printing telegraphs in which a number of magnets selected by varying strengths of current are caused to operate the levers of a type-writer. Fig. 1 shows a diagram illustrating five keys 1-5 and five magnets 56-60. The keys are arranged with a graduated series of resistances 13-17, connected to a common point 19. The point 19 is also connected to earth when receiving. The point 19 is connected to line 18 through a double rocking switch 21, 25 and magnet 29. The magnet 29 has a polarized armature 45, arranged to close the circuit of magnet 38 on the receipt of a current from the line. The magnet 38 then attracts its armature 37, and throws over the switch levers 22, 26, so that the current from the battery 8 and the variable line current are superposed and act on the magnet 66 to produce a variable throw of the lever 52 by which the required printing-magnet 56-60 is placed in a closed local circuit. A bell 67 is operated by the last contact. A resistance is inserted between the earth connections of keys 12 and line 31 to prevent earthing the variable line currents.
