Abstract

Kilns.-A small shaft kiln, of square section, is provided with openings d, Fig. 2, to the ashpit for the admission of forced draught, and with firebricklined doors e, f, Fig. 5, at one side. A divided arch g ensures a central draught. The waste gases may be used for heating or drying purposes. Fig. 5 shows a section on the line X-X, Fig. 2. Such a kiln is particularly adapted for burning cement, but it may also be used for burning lime, plaster, bricks, and the like.
