9503. Clancy, J. C., and Marsland, L. W. Jan. 24, [date applied for under Sec. 103 of Patents &c. Act, A.D. 1883]. Gold; silver; zinc; lead; metals, extracting.- Sulphide ores containing gold, silver, lead, zinc, &c. are heated with lead sulphate, heated air being blown into the furnace. Lead and zinc are volatilized as fume, which may be collected in sulphuricacid chambers in which the sulphur dioxide is at the same time converted into sulphuric acid. The sulphates of zinc and lead so obtained are separated and treated, if desired, for the extraction of the metal. The fume may be passed through tanks containing sulphuric acid, instead of being treated in the acid chambers. The residue left in the furnace may be concentrated and then smelted, or smelted directly.
