Abstract

8326. Allis, T. V. April 23. Rolling.-A continuous track 1 is provided with a number of truck furnaces 2 and one or more propelling-trucks 16, to bring two furnaces opposite rolls 5 to discharge their contents while the two preceding furnaces are being recharged by suitable apparatus 7, the supply of heated metal to the rolls being thus practically continuous. The furnaces are heated by air and gas supplied from a central swivelling column 21 through pipes 24, flexible connections 28 being provided between the pipes and a tank 17 on the motor truck, and between successive furnaces. The track may be modified in shape, and may only provide for the charging and discharging of one furnace at a time. A second track may be provided, contiguous to the first, to receive trucks loaded with metal to facilitate charging the furnaces: The furnaces may be of any suitable construction which will allow them to be easily charged and discharged, the form shown being charged through an inclined opening and one end and discharged through a throat 4 by pushers 15. A turntable 30 and spur tracks 31, 32 may be provided to facilitate the removal of a furnace for repairs.
