Abstract

5569. Watkins, R. C. March 16. Rugs and mats.- Tufts or strands of hair, coco-nut fibre, jute, or other fibrous material are combined with lengths of wire, and employed in making rugs, mats, and the like. Fig. 1 represents a mat having an iron central part d, surrounded by continuous lengths of wire b, Fig. 3, which are twisted together so as securely to hold tufts of fibrous material a. Transverse wires c, are employed to connect adjacent parts of the twisted wires. A mat may also be formed with a central part made of parallel lengths of combined wire and fibre. Combined rubber and wire mats may be formed in a similar manner, and rugs or the like may be made by using woollen or like material instead of the fibrous substances above mentioned.
