The batteries are arranged within the hollow pole A, and the lamp is protected either by a metallic shield c or by a glass globe. By providing glass o r other coloured screens d, d<1> round the lamp, and arranging for relative rotation between them and the boat-hook a, the lamp may be used for signalling purposes.
