Abstract
4441. Sackville, J. A. March 2. Bleaching; dyeing.-Relates to apparatus for use in bleaching, dyeing, drying, and similarly treating textile fabrics, especially fabrics having a pile, e.g., velvets, plushes, and corduroys. Two forms are described (1) in which the fabric is wound around a shaft or drum and has loose rods inserted at intervals between the convolutions, and (2) in which the fabric is threaded backwards and forwards round two series of rods held in a suitable frame. The first arrangement, shown in Fig. 2, consists of a drum or shaft, carrying at each end a series of arms or a wheel 2 having a number of spokes 3, the arms or spokes being formed with channels for receiving the ends of the loose rods, which are inserted between the convolutions of the fabric. These rods 5 are arranged on a cradle, or set of inclined rails 6, and are picked up by the projecting ends of the arms or spokes 3, and fall into the channels one by one as the fabric is wound on. The rods are retained in position by wedge-shaped pieces 18 and set-screws 19, Fig. 4. The frame carrying the wound-on fabrics is placed in the bleaching or other vat 7, and rotated by suitable means. After the bleaching or dyeing operation, the frame may be moved to other bearings, and rotated so as to remove superfluous liquor. If desired, the operations of bleaching, dyeing, and drying may be carried out successively in the same apparatus. When the apparatus is to be used for drying, a suitable air inlet and outlet is provided. The second form of machine is shown in Figs. 7 and 9. The fabric is threaded backwards and forwards round two parallel series of rods, supported in two pairs of channelled uprights 12, connected together by links 13, provided with screws 14 for adjusting the tension of the fabric. The uprights 12 are supported in grooved holders 15, mounted on trunnions 16 so as to be capable of rotation in a bleaching, dyeing, or drying vat 7x, the rods being retained in their supports by hinged flaps 20.
