Abstract

1113. Roberts, J. F. A. Jan. 17. Signals on engines etc.; signals, lamp; contacts, electric. - Relates to fog-signalling apparatus for railways, tramways, &c. Between the distant signal and the home signal, three insulated conducting-rails A, B, C are mounted between the ordinary rails of the track, so that they will make contact with the three corresponding spring-mounted rollers, trolleys, &c. A<1>, B<1>, C' on the locomotive, a red lamp K and a green lamp J being arranged in the view of the driver in the circuits A', C' and B<1>, C<1> respectively. By means of a switch F in the signal cabin, one or other of the rails A, B can be connected through an accumulator H or other source of electricity with the rail C, so that, when the locomotive is over these rails, the circuit A', C<1> or B', C' will be completed, and the corresponding lamp K or J illuminated. A bell N on the locomotive is connected to two rollers L', M' adapted to make contact with the short conducting-rails L, M, located at the home signal, to give a warning signal to the driver. The rails L, M are connected to the accumulator H, and a switch may be provided for cutting them out when not required.
