13,541. Johnson, J. Y., [Wellman-Seaver Engineering Co.]. July 27. Loading; shoots.-Relates to a travelling staithlike structure for loading wagons with coke direct from a coking-oven. It may also be used for coal, ore, grain, &c. Fig. 1 shows a side view of the apparatus, and Fig. 2 an end elevation with the end tower removed. Within a rectangular trussed frame 6, 7, mounted on wheels 2 to run on rails 3, is mounted a shoot-like receiver 8, which can be raised and lowered, as shown in Fig. 2, by lifting- ropes at each end passing over a series of pulleys to a common motor. When it is desired, say, to transfer coke from the hearth 5 to the wagon x, the receiver is placed in the position shown in full lines in Fig. 2, and loaded. Each end of the receiver is fitted with pulleys 32 adapted to run in guides 30, 31, so that, as the receiver is raised into the position shown in broken lines, it also moves laterally so as to bring its lower end over the truck x. The lower end of the receiver is closed by one or more gratings depending from a shaft 23. The end of this shaft is connected by a crank 33 and lever 34 to an arm 35 pivoted at its middle to a bracket on the, end of the receiver. The lower end of this arm is fitted with a pulley 36 adapted to slide in a guide 37, the upper end 38 of which is hinged so that it can be thrown back into the position shown, by a bell-crank lever 41 connected by a rod 42 and crank 43 to a shaft 44, which can be rotated by hand. When the receiver is in its raised position, therefore, the rotation of the shaft 44 raises the grating at the lower end of the receiver, which is in this way discharged. The guides 30 and 31 may be replaced by straight inclined ones, or it may be by linkwork.
