Abstract
12,910. Fell, J. C., [Milligan, T. P.]. July 17. Sizes.-Starch, soda ash, and resin, with or without the addition of other substances, such as clay, are mixed together in a dry and powdered state, and, when required for use, the mixture is sprinkled on to the surface of hot or boiling water, when it dissolves and the size is ready for use. The size may be added to the paper pulp in the beating- engine in the usual way, and the starch and resin precipitated on to the fibres by means of alum.
