Abstract

9877. Davidson, S. C. May 29. Supporting or mounting bearings for shafts &c. The central part of a bearing- sleeve 7, Fig. 1, is formed with a spherical projection 6, which engages a socket formed in two parts 1 and 2. The part 1 is connected by tension rods 12 to an outer frame made up of angle rings 13 connected by distance - pieces 14, and by means of the nuts 15 the position of the bearing can be adjusted. The part 2 of the socket is attached to the part 1 by bolts. The bearing - sleeve may oscillate slightly to secure alignment, but is prevented from rotating by means of an oil cup 9 cast on the sleeve, which cup engages a recess in the part 2. A sheet-metal lining is riveted to the inside of the frame, to exclude dust &c. The tension rods may be replaced by straight or curved cast-metal arms formed integral with the part 1 and coupled to, or formed integral with, a frame made up of angle rings, flanges, &c. so that the said frame may be built in a wall or bolted to a partition or fan casing &c. Fig. 9 shows a double bracket, preferably employed in the mounting of fans of the propeller type. The bearing-parts are carried by cast-iron arms 23 bolted together at the flanges 24. In anotber modification, a double hanger or pedestal, suitable for fixing to a ceiling or floor, is described. The hangers or pedestals are formed in one with the parts 1, and are connected by a plate. By these arrangements the bearing can be removed and replaced to suit different diameters of shafting, without dismounting the supporting- frame &c.
