Drying yarn, fabrics, tea, &c. -An apparatus for drying yarn, applicable for drying cloth, clothes, or other fabrics, or tea, coffee, grain, cinchona bark, coco-nuts, potatoes, fruit, or other vegetable substances, is shown in Fig. 1. Suitablyheated air is forced by a fan through a channel C, the top of which is perforated so that the heated air can pass upwards through the yarn, which is suspended over the channel. A framework H is placed over the channel, and supports transverse rods F on which the yarn is hung, and it also carries curtains J at the ends and sides. In a modification, a drying- chamber is formed over the channel, and the used air is drawn from the top of the chamber through a passage and passed through the heating- apparatus. Inclined baffles are placed at the top of the chamber to divert the air to the central part of the chamber, where the material usually dries most slowly. In the modification shown in Fig. 7, the channel C has a series of air-heating pipes A. A modification adapted for drying tea and similar materials has a series of drums carrying endless bands on which trays, containing the material, are placed.
