Abstract
146. McGurty, J. H., and McEwan, T. Jan. 2. Switches.-Relates to means for starting and controlling electric motors. A governor fan 16 is connected by a train of wheels and worm gearing with the shaft 2 of the controller. The blades of the fan are secured to the cross-arm by screws so that their inclination can be varied. The pinion 13 is loose on its spindle, and engages with a spring- controlled pawl 12 to drive the gearing when the handle is moved in one direction, but it allows the handle to be returned quickly to the off position. This retarding-apparatus may be housed within the casing, or may be fitted externally.
