Carding-apparatus.-The invention relates to machines for mounting press-buttons on cards &c., of the type provided with frame plates carried by an endless chain, the lower parts of the buttons, the cards, and the upper parts of the buttons being consecutively placed on the plates before they arrive at a press which joins together the press button parts. In Figs. 3 and 5, is shown a channel 11 down which slide the upper button parts 44. The parts 44 at the bottom of the channel 11 are held up obliquely by spring-pressed members 13, 14, the members 13 being grooved at their lower ends 13<a>. The frame plate 7 is fitted with pins 8, carrying the lower button parts 42 and a card 18. The heads of the parts 42 enter the heads of the parts 44, and forcing aside the members 13, 14, carry the parts 44 beneath the press roll 40 which snaps them into engagement. The lower parts 42 are fed onto the pins 8 by a similar device 10, Fig. 1. Fig. 6 shows the method of feeding the cards 18 on to the lower button parts lying on the pins 8. A tappet 20 carried in the chain 6, on which the plates 7 are mounted, contacts with a spring-retracted bell-crank 23 and moves a slide 19 which carries with it the topmost of a pile of perforated cards 18 and introduces the card between two rubber spring-pressed rotating rolls 24, 25, which feed it into clamps 34 mounted on a bar 30. The bar 30 is suspended by links 29 and is drawn upwardly by a spring 32. A roller 31 on the end of the bar 30 is engaged by a bell-crank 36, 37 which is operated by a tappet 38 on the plate 7. When a card 18 has been received into the clamps 34, the tappet 38 strikes the crank 36, 37 whereby, through the roller 31, the bar 30 is swung downwardly, bring- ing the card with its perforations over the lower button parts 42 on the pins 8. The tappet 38 advances through a slot 43 in the bar 30 and presses out the card 18 from between the clamps 34. The roll 40 is composed of a number of ebonite or other discs mounted loosely on a spring-pressed spindle. The button-filled cards after leaving the roll 40 fall off the plates 7 into a receptacle.
