Abstract
19,913. Buchan, J. Oct. 4. Filing papers &c.-Collections of postage-stamps are preserved for purposes of inspection and arrangement, by mounting the stamps upon cards B, arranged within a box A, provided with a lid, or within a tray or a drawer in a cabinet or fireproof safe. One or more stamps may be mounted upon one side of each card, and particulars respecting the date of issue, &c. of the stamps, are printed on the opposite side of the card. Intermediate cards H serve to separate the cards into various geographical or other groups. A wedgeshaped block E supports the cards, as shown in Fig. 1. A rod C passes through holes or slots in the lower parts of the cards, and may be threaded as at C<1>, or be provided with a knob and circumferential groove for receiving the bolt of a lock. The cards may be made thicker at various parts, or may have strips pasted thereon to compensate for the thicknesses of the stamps, and to prevent :rubbing between the stamps and adjacent cards. Duplicates, or a stock of unmounted stamps, may be kept in an envelope, Fig. 10, having two side flaps K, K<1>, and two end flaps L, M, one of which flaps L, is folded as shown in Fig. 10 ; a piece of cardboard may be placed within this folded portion. A tag, -paper-fastener, or the rod C may be passed through apertures B<3>, when the envelope has been folded.
