Abstract

19,120. Imhoff, P., Raschen, J., and United Alkali Co. Sept. 22. Alkaline or alkaline-earth, chlorates are obtained electrolytically in apparatus so arranged that secondary reactions are prevented. The usual solutions are charged into a tank A, which is heated to about 70‹ C., e.g. by the steam jacket B. An anode C is used, consisting of platinum or platinum-iridium wires or strips c<1> connected by other similar cross-wires c<2>. A cathode D, formed of a nickel plate, or of nickel wires arranged as the anode, is placed on each side of the anode. The arrangement may be reversed, one cathode being used with an anode on either side. Or the containing-cell may be made of, or lined with, nickel, and be utilized as the cathode.
