Abstract
18,112. Gilmour, D. Sept. 7. Wood, treating.-Relates to a process for producing high-grade lumber, of which the body is of inferior material. The tree is cut into lengths, which are subjected to the action of hot water or steam. The lengths are placed in a peeler B, which by the revolution of the log cuts off the lumber in a continuous length which is cut into pieces by the clipper C. These pieces are passed between steam-heated rolls D, thence into a " sticker " E which grooves their surfaces, and then under a revolving glueing-brush F. The surface of the body piece is prepared in the same way, and the two pieces with grooves and tongues fitting into each other are passed between heated rollers G. Apparatus for fireproofing may be interposed in the series of machines.
